September 27 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's Energo-Pro Varna, part of Czech power utility group Energo-Pro, said on Tuesday that its subsidiary Electrodistribution North (ERP North) is investing 640,000 levs ($314,975/327,230 euro) in an overhaul of the electricity grids of three municipalities in Varna Region as part of its 2022 investment programme.
The works involved three projects in the municipalities of Provadia, Vetrino and Suvorovo, with two of them already completed, Energo-Pro Varna said in an emailed statement.
ERP North's upgrades included the refurbishing of low-voltage air mains, replacement of 50 steel concrete poles and installation of 7.5 km of insulated cable in addition to the overhaul of 13 substations in Vetrino and Provadia municipalities. Work was also completed on the Sindel overhead power line to ensure faster reaction at times of outages and operational switching.
The third project, which is yet to be finalised, consists in upgrading the Shtipsko hydroelectric power plant which provides back-up power to the town of Suvorovo and will also involve equipment and installation updates.
Energo-Pro Varna, which employs over 2,400 staff, serves some 1.2 million customers in nine regions of northeastern Bulgaria and also operates as a wholesale electricity trader with about 30,000 clients across the country.
