February 17 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's current account showed a surplus of 1.8 billion euro ($1.91 billion) in 2016, compared to a surplus of 172.4 million euro in the previous year, the central bank said on Friday.
The current account surplus for the January-December period was equivalent to 3.9% of the 2016 gross domestic product (GDP) projected by the central bank, as compared to a surplus equivalent to 0.4% of GDP in 2015, the Bulgarian National Bank, BNB, said in a statement.
In December alone, the current account balance showed a deficit of 494.1 million euro, compared to a shortfall of 281.2 million euro in the same month in 2015.
Bulgaria's trade deficit totalled 1.79 billion euro, or 3.8% of GDP, in 2016, as compared to a gap of 2.6 billion euro, or 5.8% of GDP, a year earlier.
