SOFIA (Bulgaria), June 2 (SeeNews) – Bulgaria’s gas transmission system operator Bulgartransgaz launched a procedure for the allocation of available storage capacity of 232 million cubic metres (cu m) of natural gas for the 2014-2015 gas year in the Chiren underground gas storage facility, in the northwest of the country, the company said.
Bulgartransgaz is inviting interested parties to apply for storage capacity by June 4, the company said in a notice published on its website over the weekend.
Bulgartransgaz offers both short- and long-term storage services at the Chiren facility.
Chiren, Bulgaria's only gas storage facility, covers seasonal fluctuations during the winter season when gas consumption reaches its peak.
The facility has a s total capacity of 1.3 billion cubic metres (cu m) of gas, including 750 million cu m of buffer gas. It has 22 wells and a compressor station with a total capacity of 10 megawatts.
Bulgartransgaz is part of state-operated Bulgarian Energy Holding.
