May 17 (SeeNews) - Bulgarian telecommunications group BTC, operating under the Vivacom brand, has entered into strategic partnership with Chinese telecommunications equipment and services company Huawei for the development of a regional cloud technology-based hub, BTC said.
"Vivacom and Huawei have set the ambitious goal of developing a regional cloud hub. This will be the first project of its kind to be launched in Bulgaria and will establish the country as a regional high-tech center," Spas Russev, chairman of BTC supervisory board, said in a statement on Tuesday.
According to Guo Ping, CEO of Huawei, all ICT solutions for enterprises will become cloud-based by 2025 and more than 85% of corporate applications will be placed directly in the cloud.
Last week, BTC said it had invested 41 million levs ($22.9 million/20.9 million euro) into its technological infrastructure in the first quarter of 2017. In March, the company reported a profit of 8.8 million levs in the first quarter of 2017, up from 2.7 million levs in the like period of 2016.
