SOFIA (Bulgaria), May 20 (SeeNews) – Bulgaria's BMF Port Burgas plans to invest over 20 million euro ($27.3 million) in upgrading its infrastructure this year, local media reported.
The company recently bought two 100-tonne mobile cranes worth some 6.0 million euro in total, news portal investor.bg reported on Monday, adding that the cranes will be used in the construction of the offshore section of the South Stream gas pipeline.
South Stream, spearheaded by Russia's Gazprom, aims to diversify gas routes within the European Union and to provide stable gas supplies from Russia to central and southern Europe. The offshore section of the pipeline is to pass through the economic zones of Russia, Turkey and Bulgaria, while its onshore section is designed to pass through the territories of Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary, Greece, Slovenia, and Austria.
Some of the pipes of planned pipeline will be stored on the territory of the port, investor.bg added.
BMF Port Burgas also plans to build a grain terminal, the news portal said, adding that three silos with a combined capacity of 45,000 tonnes will be built initially.
BMF Port Burgas, a subsidiary of Bulgarian maritime shipping company Navibulgar, operates the Burgas-west and Burgas-east 2 port terminals, on the Black Sea, under a concession contract.
