SOFIA (Bulgaria), April 29 (SeeNews) - Bulgarian state-owned railway company BDZ Passengers said on Thursday it put into operation four new Siemens Smartron locomotives delivered under its contract with a tie-up between Siemens Mobility Austria and Siemens Mobility Bulgaria.

BDZ Passengers has received ten of a total of 15 new Siemens Smartron locomotives under the contract thus far, the company said in a statement.

The railway company expects to get the remaining five locomotives earlier than expected, it added.

Last year, BDZ Passengers signed a 55.5 million levs ($34.4 million/28.4 million euro) deal for the purchase of 10 Siemens locomotives, followed by a second 27.2 million levs contract which envisages the delivery of 5 more locomotives by the end of 2021.
