January 3 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's BDZ Passengers, part of state-owned railway group BDZ Holding, said on Friday that it has invited expressions of interest (EoI) for participation in a 246.8 million levs ($140.7 million/126.2 million euro) tender for supply of 16 new electric multiple unit trains.
All 16 trains are expected to be delivered within three years of the contract signature date, with the first delivery expected within two years, BDZ Passengers said in a statement.
The new trains should be able to run at a speed of 160 km/h, the company noted.
Selected candidates will be invited to submit technical and price offers, which will then be ranked based on price, maintenance costs and average expenses per passenger carried.
The tender is part of the company's strategy for upgrading its rolling stock.
