June 14 (SeeNews) - Bulgarian state-owned railways group BDZ Holding said that it is negotiating with Deutsche Bahn (DB) over the purchase of 100 used wagons for an undisclosed price.
The investment necessary for acquiring wagons from DB will be smaller than the one needed for the renovation and modernisations of the wagons currently owned by BDZ, the Bulgarian company said in a statement on Thursday.
BDZ Holding also intends to carry out capital repairs of 46 Siemens Desiro multiple unit passenger trains and 45 locomotives within the next three years. Meanwhile, the group intends to invest over 100 million euro ($112.6 million) in the purchase of 10-15 new multiple unit trains and 30-50 new wagons by 2030, with first deliveries expected in mid-2023 at the earliest.
BDZ Holding is also looking into the possibility of seeking EU financing in the next programming period 2021-2027, in order to partially finance the modernisation of its rolling stock.
After 2030, the group will seek to begin the gradual replacement of the Siemens Desiro multiple unit passenger trains, and the locomotives and wagons currently servicing international lines.
