August 6 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's BDZ Cargo, part of state-owned railway group BDZ Holding, said that its net loss narrowed to 1.5 million levs ($859,000/767,000 euro) in the first half of 2019 from 2.7 million levs in the same period of 2018.
BDZ Cargo's operating revenue grew by 14.6% year-on-year to 59 million levs in the January-June period of 2019, the company said in an interim financial statement.
The railway company transported 3.7 million tonnes of cargo in the first six months of the year, up by 22% compared to the same period of 2018.
The company's operating expenses increased by an annual 16.2% to 59.7 million levs in the review period, mainly due to higher expenses for electricity and hired services.
BDZ Cargo employed an average of 2,892 people during the first half of 2019, down from 3,056 in the corresponding period of last year.
