January 23 (SeeNews) - As many as 48% of Bulgarians are against the planned adoption of the euro, while the share of those in favour is almost equal, the results of a new poll showed on Tuesday.
Forty-six percent of Bulgarians approve their country joining the Eurozone, while 6% have no opinion on the matter, according to the results of a poll conducted by Sofia-based Gallup International.
The poll was conducted on January 15-16 among 801 respondents.
Regarding Bulgaria's recent efforts to support improvement of the relations between the EU and Turkey, 49% of respondents say they are in favour, while 42% are against Bulgaria helping its southern neighbour.
Last week, prime minister Boyko Borissov said Bulgaria's way towards joining the EU's Exchange Rate Mechanism II (ERM II), the euro's waiting room, is open due to the country's solid macroeconomic indicators.
Earlier this month, finance minister Vladislav Goranov said the government will most likely apply for joining the ERM II, the system set up by the EU for the preparation of member states for the introduction of the euro, in the first half of 2018 while the country holds the presidency of the Council of the European Union.
