SOFIA (Bulgaria), December 1 (SeeNews) - The share indices of the Bulgarian Stock Exchange (BSE) closed lower on Wednesday, amidst a sharp increase in turnover, bourse data showed.

Total turnover on the BSE's main market jumped to 62.3 million levs ($36.1 million/31.8 million euro) from 1.3 million levs on Tuesday, with drug maker Sopharma [BUL:SOF] and subsidiaries contributing the bulk of the increase, BSE data showed.

Sopharma was the most traded company on Wednesday as 8,722,903 of its shares changed hands 2.82% higher at an average price of 4.2603 levs, contributing 37.2 million levs of the total turnover for the day. Earlier on Wednesday, Sopharma said that it intends to buy back 2.6 million of its own shares on December 1 at a price of 4.26 levs per share.

Sopharma Properties REIT [BUL:SFI], in which Sopharma held a stake of 5.42% at the end of September, generated 19.2 million levs of Wednesday's turnover as 3,193,403 shares in the company traded flat at an average price of 5.9999 levs.

Sopharma Trading [BUL:SFT], a unit of Sopharma, was the third most traded company on Wednesday as 468,132 of its shares changed hands 2.45% lower at an average price of 4.8005 levs, generating 2.25 million levs of turnover.

The blue-chip SOFIX index fell 0.95% to 616.80 points on Wednesday.

The BGBX40 index, which tracks the 40 most traded shares on the Sofia bourse, went down 0.69% to 138.81 points, while the BGTR30 index, in which companies with a free float of at least 10% have equal weight, fell 0.82% to 663.71 points.

The SOFIX, the BGBX40 and the BGTR30 were all dragged down by a 7.08% decline in the share price of financial and energy group Eurohold Bulgaria [BUL:EUBG].

A total of 9,750 Eurohold shares changed hands at an average price of 2.0988 levs on the floor of the BSE on Wednesday. Eurohold closed Tuesday's trading session with a 3.67% rise in its share price.

The BGREIT index, which tracks seven real estate investment trusts, decreased by 0.46% to 165.04 points mainly due to a 1.72% drop in the shares of Advance Terrafund REIT [BUL:ATER].
