SOFIA (Bulgaria), August 22 (SeeNews) – The Bulgarian Nuclear Regulatory Agency has invited expressions of interest for a 3 million euro ($3.5 million) contract for technical support in relation to the decommissioning of units 1 to 4 at Kozloduy NPP and management of radioactive waste, the EBRD said on Tuesday.
The assignment is anticipated to start in first quarter 2018 and is expected to last for approximately 36 months, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) said in a statement.
The contract envisages assessment of licensee’s documents subject to regulatory approval, assistance in development and maintaining of the Bulgarian regulatory framework up-to date with the current EU experience and good practices in the areas related to decommissioning and radioactive waste management, as well as assistance in activities related to regulatory capacity strengthening in the decommissioning and radioactive waste management area, the lender said.
The contract will be fully financed by a grant from the Kozloduy International Decommissioning Support Fund (KIDSF) which was set up under a framework agreement between the EBRD and the Bulgarian government. KIDSF assists in restructuring, upgrading and modernisation of the energy production, transmission and distribution sectors as well as in improving energy efficiency.
