June 28 (SeeNews) - Russia's OMZ Group said that its unit - nuclear engineering company Izhorskiye Zavody, has signed a contract with Bulgaria's nuclear power plant (NPP) Kozloduy for supply of nuclear fuel shipping casks, tools and equipment.
The deal includes the production of 22 shipping casks for spent nuclear fuel from Units 5 and 6 of NPP Kozloduy, OMZ Group said in a statement on Thursday.
Earlier this month, NPP Kozloduy opened a tender for awarding a 14.5 million levs ($8.4 million/7.4 million euro) contract for supply of 22 casks for storage and transport of spent nuclear fuel. The deadline for submitting bids is July 15.
In 2017, NPP Kozloduy started a tender for supply of 22 casks and invited Izhorskiye Zavody to submit an offer, but subsequently canceled the procedure.
Kozloduy NPP is Bulgaria's sole operational nuclear power plant. It remained with two operational units - Units 5 and 6 - of 1,000 MW each after the country closed down four units of 440 MW each to address nuclear safety concerns of the European Union prior to its accession to the bloc in 2007.
