November 20 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria-based non-life insurance companies increased their gross written premiums (GWP) to 2.09 billion levs ($1.2 billion/1.1 billion euro) in the first nine months of 2019 from 1.54 billion levs in the same period of last year, according to data from the Financial Supervision Commission.
The rise was mostly driven by motor vehicle liability insurance premiums, which grew to 935.5 million levs in the January-September period of 2019 from 688.6 million levs in the comparable period of 2018, financial regulator data, published on Tuesday, showed.
Motor insurance premiums formed 44.8% of the total gross premiums in the review period, followed by land vehicles insurance premiums, with 29.6% of the total.
Lev Ins was the biggest player on the non-life insurance market with gross premiums of 280.2 million levs in the first nine months of the year, equal to a market share of 13.4%.
Bulstrad Vienna Insurance Group and DZI - General Insurance followed with market shares of 11.3% and 11.2% in the review period.
Armeec and Bul Ins wrapped up the top five, with market shares of 10% and 8.4%, respectively.
