August 29 (SeeNews) - The gross written premiums (GWPs) of life insurance companies in Bulgaria declined to 155.1 million levs ($85.7 million/79.3 million euro) in the first quarter of 2023 from 175.5 million levs in the comparable period of 2022, the country's financial regulator said.
Life insurance premiums connected with an index or shareholding in investment funds amounted to 24.4 million levs at the end of the review period, the Financial Supervision Commission (FSC) said in a data release last week.
At the end of the first quarter, the largest sector players were Bulstrad Life Vienna Insurance Group, with GWPs of 54.9 million levs, and DZI Life Insurance, part of Hungarian financial services group OTP, with 28.3 million levs, that gave them market shares of 35.4% and 18.3%, respectively.
A total of ten life insurance companies were active in Bulgaria as of the end of March. Their total assets decreased to 2.35 billion levs at the end of March from some 2.56 billion levs a year earlier.
