January 18 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's government said on Thursday it approved a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Macedonia on cuts in roaming charges signed in November 2017.
Under the terms of the agreement, the governments of Bulgaria and Macedonia will work towards encouraging the mobile operators to sign contracts that would lead to a permanent reduction in prices of international tariffs and roaming services.
Currently, the roaming prices for customers of mobile operators in the two countries are among the highest in Europe, with a call rate of between 2.99 levs ($1.87/1.54 euro) and 6.99 levs per minute and 25 euro per megabyte of data.
The abolishment of European Union roaming charges for the Western Balkan countries is among the priorities of the Bulgarian government and Bulgarian EU commissioner Mariya Gabriel.
In December, Bulgaria signed a similar MoU with Serbia to encourage mobile operators to lower the roaming charges applied in the two neighbouring countries.
