January 6 (SeeNews) - Passenger numbers at the Bulgarian airports of Varna and Burgas increased by an annual 59% to 3.1 million last year, operator Fraport Twin Star Airport Management said on Friday.
Traffic at Varna Airport rose by 47% to over 1.48 million passengers in 2022, while Burgas Airport recorded an annual surge of 72% to 1.63 million, as travel business has started to recover despite the ongoing uncertainty caused by the war in Ukraine, Fraport Twin Star said in a statement.
The two airports on the Black Sea coast served more than 23,700 regular and charter flights by 72 Bulgarian and foreign airlines to over 121 destinations in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa. Cargo handled at Varna amounted to 104 tonnes, whereas in Burgas it came to 6,244 tonnes.
Fraport Twin Star will invest over 70 million euro ($73.5 million) in the two airports over the next five years, the company told SeeNews earlier.
