October 1 (SeeNews) - The assets of Bulgarian commercial banks totalled 69.1 billion levs ($51.4 billion/35.3 billion euro) at the end of August, 0.04% down from a year earlier, central bank data showed.

The biggest Bulgarian bank by assets at the end of August was Unicredit Bulbank, a unit of Italian banking group UniCredit. Second came DSK Bank, owned by Hungarian banking group OTP, followed by United Bulgarian Bank, majority-owned by the National Bank of Greece.
Twenty-four domestically-registered banks and five branches of foreign lenders operate in Bulgaria.
