January 4 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's caretaker government said on Wednesday it will provide 13 million levs ($7.01 million/6.65 million euro) in financial support to the fisheries sector to help it deal with the impact of the war in Ukraine.
The funds will be used to compensate fisheries for lost income and additional expenses resulting from war-induced market turmoil that have affected fishing, aquaculture and processing, the government said in a press release.

Compensation will also be paid out for the temporary suspension of fishing activities aimed at ensuring crew safety.
The support scheme will be financed by redirecting funds from the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Programme 2014-2020 to the fisheries sector. In November, the European Commission approved the disbursement of 85 million euro in grants to Bulgaria's fisheries sector, bringing the total support for it to 121 million euro for the period 2021-2027.
