December 4 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's government said on Wednesday it has allocated an additional 3.7 million levs ($ 2.1 million/1.9 million euro) to the agriculture ministry for preventing the spread of African swine fever in the country.
"The funds will be used for co-financing by Bulgaria of urgent measures for fighting African swine fever," the government said in a statement following its weekly meeting.

Outbreaks of African swine fever have been confirmed in eight industrial pig farms in Bulgaria year to date, with the last one reported on September 18 by the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency.
In August, the agriculture ministry said that Bulgaria will receive 2.9 million euro from the European Commission to finance the prevention of African swine fever spreading in the country.
In July, when the first outbreak of African swine fever in domestic pigs was reported in Bulgaria, the government approved the first 3.7 million levs allocation to the agriculture ministry's budget.
