March 19 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's health ministry said that the country will resume vaccination with the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine on Friday following a positive statement on its safety from the European Medicines Agency (EMA).
The Bulgarian Medicines Agency has also separately analysed a batch of the AstraZeneca vaccine and found no issues with its quality, the health ministry said in a statement on Thursday.
Bulgaria suspended the vaccine's rollout on March 12 amid reports that some people who have received the shot have subsequently formed blood clots.
The country is entering a new ten-day lockdown on March 22 following a surge in COVID-19 cases and associated deaths. Restaurants, bars, non-food retail outlets of over 300 sq m, shopping malls, kindergartens, gyms, casinos, cinemas, museums and art galleries will be closed and all students will attend classes online.
