January 19 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's State Enterprise Radioactive Waste (SERAW) will launch nine tenders part of the decommissioning of Units 1-to-4 of Kozloduy nuclear power plant and the National Disposal Facility, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) said on Friday.
The contracts include construction of an information centre for decommissioning, upgrade of a radioactive waste processing plant and storage, treatment of contaminated soil, sampling analyses, retrieval and treatment of historical radioactive waste, among others, EBRD said in a procurement notice.
The general procurement notice is an update of the general procurement notice published by the EBRD on January 20 2017.
The contracts will be financed with the proceeds of Kozloduy International Decommissioning Support Fund (KIDSF) which is administered by the EBRD.
KIDSF, which was set up under a framework agreement between the EBRD and the Bulgarian government, assists in the necessary restructuring, upgrading and modernisation of the energy production, transmission and distribution sectors as well as in improving energy efficiency.
Bulgaria closed early the four Russian-made reactors of 440 MW each at Kozloduy to meet nuclear safety demands set by the European Union as a condition for the country's accession to the bloc in 2007. The closure left Kozloduy operating two Russian-made units of 1,000 MW each.
