SOFIA (Bulgaria), April 4 (SeeNews) – Bulgaria's regional development ministry said it will launch a 140 million levs ($80.4 million/71.6 million euro) tender for the construction of a bypass road in Kardzhali - a project that will reduce air pollution in the city and the time for travel to neighbouring Greece.
The bypass road is the most important project in the region as it will reduce traffic congestion during the summer months when some 10,000 cars pass through Kardzhali daily, the ministry said in a press release on Wednesday.
Works on the construction of the 15 km-long bypass road will start in 2020, regional development deputy minister Nikolay Nankov said.
The construction of 5 viaducts as well as bridges, overpasses and underpasses is planned under the project.
Kardzhali lies on the road leading to the Makaza crossing on the border with Greece. The road is part of pan-European Corridor IX connecting Finland and Russia to Greece.
