January 9 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria is planning to expand the capacity of Lesovo, one of its control posts on the border with Turkey, and will build a road to connect it to the Maritsa motorway in southern Bulgaria, regional development minister Ivan Shishkov said over the weekend.
Talks on the projected expansion are underway between Bulgarian president Rumen Radev and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Shishkov said, as quoted in a press release.
Bulgaria has three border checkpoints along its 259-km land border with Turkey - Kapitan Andreevo, which is the biggest one, Malko Tarnovo and Lesovo.
Bulgaria, which is on the waiting list to join the EU's Schengen passport-free travel area, has had to deal with growing illegal migrant traffic through its southern border in the past years.
