March 20 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's current account was in surplus of 326 million euro ($346.3 million) at the end of January, compared to a deficit of 622.1 million euro a year earlier, the central bank said on Monday.
The current account surplus was equal to 0.4% of the estimated gross domestic product (GDP) projected for 2023, the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) said in a monthly balance of payments report. The deficit in January 2022 represented 0.7% of the year's GDP.
In January, imports of goods into Bulgaria grew by 10.8% year-on-year to some 4 billion euro, equal to 4.4% of the GDP forecast for 2023. In the same month of 2022, imports accounted for 4.3% of GDP.
At 3.94 billion euro, exports of goods in January increased by 27.5%, compared to a 29.7% annual rise in the same month of 2022. The value of exports in January 2023 was equivalent to 4.4% of Bulgaria's projected GDP.
