November 27 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's National Railway Infrastructure Company (NRIC) said on Wednesday that it has signed a 498.8 million levs ($280.6 million/255 million euro) contract for the modernisation of the Elin Pelin-Vakarel railway section, in western Bulgaria, with a tie-up of two foreign companies.
The tie-up, which will upgrade the 20-kilometre section, comprises Turkish companies Duygu Muhendislik Insaat and Cengiz, NRIC said in a statement.
The contract also envisages the construction of a new train station in the town of Elin Pelin.
Works on the project should be completed within 6 years.
The deal is part of a larger project for the modernisation of the railway line connecting the Bulgarian capital Sofia with the country's second largest city - Plovdiv.
