March 8 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria will seek to terminate a contract for the purchase of COVID-19 vaccines developed by U.S.-based Pfizer and Germany's Biontech, the health ministry said on Wednesday.
The Bulgarian position will be presented on March 14 at a regular session of the Council of the European Union on Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs (EPSCO), the health ministry said.
Bulgaria will also propose that deliveries should be in line with the needs of member states and should be made after a request of specific quantities.
Bulgaria is the country with the lowest vaccination rate in the EU. According to data from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, Bulgaria’s uptake of primary course of COVID-19 vaccination is only 30.1%, compared with 73% among the total EU population.
