February 20 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria’s State Enterprise Radioactive Waste (SERAW) intends using a 2.2 million euro ($2.33 million) grant from the Kozloduy International Decommissioning Support Fund (KIDSF) towards consultancy services to support the decommissioning process of units 1-to-4 of Kozloduy nuclear power plant, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) said.
The services include an upgrade of the Radioactive Waste Processing Plant (RAWPP) and Radioactive Waste (RAW) storage, update of Safety Analysis Report (SAR) as well as support in establishing licensing requirements, EBRD said in a procurement notice on Friday.
Interested parties should apply no later than March 21, 2017. Consultant selection will be open to firms from any country.
KIDSF, which was set up under a framework agreement between the EBRD and the Bulgarian government, assists in the necessary restructuring, upgrading and modernisation of the energy production, transmission and distribution sectors as well as in improving energy efficiency.
Bulgaria closed early the four Russian-made reactors of 440 MW each at Kozloduy to meet nuclear safety demands set by the European Union as a condition for the country's accession to the bloc in 2007. The closure left Kozloduy operating two Russian-made units of 1,000 MW each.
