SOFIA (Bulgaria), September 15 (SeeNews) – Bulgaria Sat said on Friday it has selected Swedish telecommunications company Ericsson to deliver media processing hardware, in relation to the Sofia-based satellite operator’s first geostationary satellite, BulgariaSat-1.
“With this latest agreement, we will be able to deliver a series of enhanced services - as well as our new 4K service,” Maxim Zayakov, CEO of Bulgaria Sat, said in a statement.
As part of the deal, Ericsson will deliver its AVP 4000 system encoders, 56 High Definition MPEG-4 services, three High Definition HEVC services and 46 Standard Definition MPEG-4 services.The solution will also offer the first 4K services delivered via BulgariaSat-1, the country's first geostationary communications satellite.
BulgariaSat-1 reached the Bulgarian orbital position on July 3. On June 23, the satellite was launched from Cape Canaveral aboard a space-proven Falcon 9 rocket provided by SpaceX.
Bulgaria Sat, set up in 2011, is 100%-owned by Bulgaria Sat Holding, an affiliate of Bulsatcom, which is the largest pay-TV provider in Bulgaria.
