SOFIA (Bulgaria), September 27 (SeeNews) – Bulgaria and Romania will discuss the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for carrying out a feasibility study for the construction of a bridge over the Danube connecting the cities of Ruse and Giurgiu, the government in Sofia said.
“Support for the construction of the new facility over the Danube near Ruse-Giurgiu has also been expressed by the local and regional authorities of both countries,” the Bulgarian government said in a statement.
The existing bridge, connecting the two cities, is more than 60 years old and its technical parameters leave no room for upgrades aimed at easing traffic jams.
Bulgaria and Romania are also connected by a second bridge spanning the Danube upstream between the cities of Vidin and Calafat.
