SOFIA (Bulgaria), September 30 (SeeNews) – A 30-year-old male has died of swine flu in Bulgaria, the country's first death from the A/H1N1 virus, the Health Ministry said on Wednesday.
The number of infections in the country currently totals 78, the ministry said in a statement.
The man was diagnosed as having contracted the virus on September 19, the statement said.
The A/H1N1 influenza, popularly known as swine flu, can be deadly to humans. The disease is easily transmitted through coughing or sneezing. Swine flu cannot be contracted through consumption of thermally processed pork meat. Its symptoms are similar to the symptoms of the common flu.
The number of infections in European Union member states is 4,334 with swine flu deaths at 174 so far, the ministry said in the statement.
