SOFIA (Bulgaria), May 12 (SeeNews) – Life expectancy at birth of the Bulgarian population calculated for the period 2014-2016 is 74.7 years, the second lowest in the EU, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) announced on Friday.
Compared to 2013-2015, life expectancy has increased by 0.2 years, NSI said in a statement.
Life expectancy at birth was 71.2 years for male population and 78.2 years for female in the review period.
Between 2006 and 2016, life expectancy at birth has increased by 2.2 years for male population and 1.9 years for female, according to the NSI.
Compared to 2006, life expectancy of urban population increased by 2.5 years to 75.5 years, while life expectancy of rural population rose by 1.1 years to 72.6 years.
Life expectancy at birth varied from 76.4 years in the southern Kazdzhali district and 76.3 years in the capital Sofia, to 72.6 years in the districts of Vidin and Montana in Bulgaria’s poorest Northwestern Region.
