May 12 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's government is planning to propose a cut in the value added tax rate applicable to restaurants and entertainment establishments registered under the country's Tourism Act to 9% from 20% currently, prime minister Boyko Borissov said on Tuesday.
The measure is aimed at softening the blow from the coronavirus pandemic, which has forced the Bulgarian government to shut down restaurants across the country in order to stop its spread, the government press office quoted Borissov as saying during a meeting with members of local hotel and restaurant associations.
"This could be a measure which subsequently will yield good results and will last," Borissov added.
The state of emergency in Bulgaria which the government declared on March 13 is expected to end on May 13.
