July 2 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's infrastructure agency said on Monday it has opened the offers of six candidates submitted in the tender for upgrading a 31.5 km-long section of the main road linking the capital Sofia to Kalotina crossing, on the border with Serbia.
The road section is divided into two lots - from Kalotina to Dragoman (14.5 km) and from Dragoman to Slivnitsa (17 km), the infrastructure agency said in a statement.
Three consortia - Hydro-vod stroy, led by local company Hydrostroy; Strabag BPA, led by local unit of Austria-based Strabag; and Obedinenie Kalotina-Sofia, led by GP Group, submitted offers to modernise the lot Kalotina-Dragoman. Bulgarian construction company GBS Infrastrukturno Stroitelstvo also filed a bid to overhaul the Kalotina-Dragoman section.
In addition, GBS Infrastrukturno Stroitelstvo submitted an offer for the second lot, from Dragoman to Slivnitsa. Bulgarian consortium Geopat Zapad also placed an offer for the second lot.
The total indicative value of the works on the two lots is 258.7 million levs ($153.5 million/132.3 million euro)
The works on the first lot should be completed in 852 days while those on the second lot - in 910 days.

The modernization of the road section will improve the cross-border connection between Bulgaria and Serbia, reduce travel time and provide safer driving conditions.
The road section is part of European transport Corridor Xc connecting Kapitan Andreevo crossing on Bulgaria's border with Turkey to Kalotina via Sofia. The route is part of the shortest road link between Western Europe and the Middle East.
