July 11 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's National Railway Infrastructure Company launched a 248.4 million levs ($148.9 million/127 million euro) tender for the reconstruction of a railway section connecting Orizovo and Mihaylovo villages, which is part of a railway link between the second biggest city of Plovdiv and Burgas, on the Black Sea coast.
The works on the 37 km section includes the construction of a 835 m tunnel, the National Railway Infrastructure Company said in a statement.
In November the Bulgarian government said it intends to invest just over 800 million levs in the rehabilitation of the railway line connecting the two cities. Around 500 million levs of the total sum is expected to come from EU funds under Operational Programme Transport and Transport Infrastructure.
The aim of the project is to improve the security of the railway and increase the possible speed to 160 km/h, which will reduce the time it takes for passenger trains to cover the distance between the two cities by 40 minutes.
