March 7 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's National Railway Infrastructure Company (NRIC) said on Tuesday that it has launched a 24 million levs ($13.06 million/12.27 million euro) tender for the installation of the European Railway Traffic Management System (ERTMS) as part of a larger contract for the modernisation of a major railroad to Serbia.
The tender relates to the design and implementation of the European Train Control System (ETCS), an automatic train protection system, for the railway section between the village of Voluyak and the town of Dragoman, the NRIC said in a notice published in the public procurement register.
The project also includes the installation of the GSM-R, a radio system for providing voice and data communication between the track and the train, at the section between Voluyak and the Serbian border.
The project is financed by Bulgaria's 2021-2027 Transport Connectivity Programme, which was approved in October.
Bids in the tender can be submitted until April 6. The term for execution of the project is 34 months.
The European Railway Traffic Management System, whose two main components include the ETCS and GSM-R, aims to replace the different national train control and command systems in Europe and enable the creation of a seamless European railway system, according to the ERTMS website.
