SOFIA (Bulgaria), October 31 (SeeNews) – Bulgaria, Macedonia, and Albania have agreed to establish a working group and appoint a coordinator for the construction of the pan-European transport Corridor VIII, the Bulgarian transport ministry said on Friday.
The transport ministers of Bulgaria, Macedonia, and Albania Nikolina Angelkova, Mile Janakievski, and Edmond Haxhinasto, respectively, have also decided to hold an annual trilateral meeting, the Bulgarian transport ministry said in a press release.
The three countries will adopt a joint declaration on co-ordinated steps towards the construction of Corridor VIII.
Angelkova said that the design of the Radomir-Gyueshevo railway line, part of Corridor VIII, has been included in the new programming period of EU operational programme Transport and Transport Infrastructure 2014-2020.
Bulgaria will work for the integration of the transport direction Bari/Brindisi - Durres/Vlora - Tirana - Skopje - Sofia - Burgas/Varna into the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), Angelkova added.
Corridor VIII runs from the southern Italian ports of Bari and Brindisi, through Albania and Macedonia, to the Bulgarian Black Sea ports of Burgas and Varna.
