November 25 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's caretaker government decided to extend the state of epidemic emergency by four months, until March 31, it said on Thursday.
"The spread of COVID-19 in the country marks the intensive development of another pandemic wave. All regions of the country are affected by the new coronavirus variant, and in 93% of them the 14-day morbidity is over 500 per 100,000 population," the cabinet said in a statement.
The number of hospitalised patients is also increasing. Around 25.5% of Bulgaria's population is vaccinated, which is far from the EU's target of 70%. Unvaccinated people in Bulgaria account for over 85% of all new SARS-CoV-2 infected individuals, the government said.
Bulgaria has confirmed a total of 682,552 COVID-19 cases thus far, of which 105,929 still active. By November 25, Bulgaria had administered over 3.2 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines, according to data published by the health ministry.
