SOFIA (Bulgaria), September 18 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's Blagoevgrad municipality has opened a new regional waste management facility in Buchino following investment of some 17 million levs ($9.6 million/8.7 million euro), the environment ministry said. 

The investment in the project in soutwestern Bulgaria has been jointly provided by Bulgaria's Enterprise for Management of Environmental Protection Activities and the ministry of finance, the environment ministry said in a statement on Tuesday. 

The waste deposit site in Buchino will serve Blagoevgrad and the neighbouring municipalities of Simitli, Rila, Kocherinovo and Boboshevo. 

Along with its opening, environment minister Neno Dimov and Blagoevgrad mayor Atanas Kambitov broke ground for additional infrastructure, including an installation for treatment of household waste and composting installation for biodegradable and/or green waste. The investment in the infrastructure, part of the new waste depot, amounts to 12 million levs, with some 9 million of the total provided by the EU. 

Some 98,000 people will benefit from the successful completion of the 12 million levs project.
