April 7 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria has banned entry into the country to all non-EU citizens, as well as citizens of the EU member states most affected by the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, health minister Kiril Ananiev said.

The ban includes citizens of Schengen area members Italy, Spain, France, Germany, the UK, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Liechtenstein, Iceland, Austria and Switzerland, Kiril Ananiev said in his order published on Monday.

However, the country will allow transit crossing of EU citizens and citizens of neighboring Serbia, North Macedonia, Turkey as well as Montenegro who are returning to their home countries.

Bulgarian citizens and those who have long-term residence permits as well as their families are still allowed to return to Bulgaria.

The measures will also not apply to medics, social workers, transport crews, and foreign government officials.
