SOFIA (Bulgaria), October 29 (SeeNews) – Bulgaria has approved a memorandum of understanding (MoD) with Romania for conducting feasibility studies for the construction of two bridges over the Danube river, the country's transport ministry said.
Last week, the Romanian government also gave its approval for the MoD for feasibility studies for Romania's Calarasi to Silistra bridge in Bulgaria, and a bridge linking Turnu Magurele to Nikopol.
A Bulgarian-Romanian working group for the implementation of the project is expected to be formed by the end of next week, the ministry said on Tuesday.
The pre-project activities, which include the feasibility studies, environment impact assessment and analysis of the potential benefits of the construction of the two bridges, are expected to be financed under the Romania-Bulgaria Cross Border Cooperation Programme 2014-2020.
Currently, the two countries are connected by two bridges, one linking Giurgiu and Ruse and the other one, launched last year, connecting Calafat to Vidin.
