May 3 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's sole nuclear power plant (NPP) Kozloduy said that its net profit rose to 163.6 million levs ($93.3 million/83.6 million euro) in 2018 from 117.7 million levs the year before, backed by higher output and revenue.
NPP Kozloduy's total operating revenue grew 20.09% to 1.12 billion levs in 2018, the plant operator said in an annual financial statement.
The power plant's output rose by 3.7% to 16,125,281 MWh in 2018, in part due to the shorter period for carrying out planned annual maintenance works. NPP Kozloduy sold 15,312,415 MWh of electricity in 2018, up 4% year-on-year.
Deals with the Independent Bulgarian Energy Exchange (IBEX) formed 37.21% of NPP Kozloduy's revenue in 2018, followed by deals with state-owned National Electricity Company - NEK, and power utility CEZ Trade Bulgaria [BUL:1CZ], which contributed a further 11.87% and 10.46%, respectively.
The power plant's total operating expenses added 17.47% to 939.3 million levs last year.
In a separate financial statement, NPP Kozloduy said that its net profit increased to 127.4 million levs in the first quarter of 2019 from 87.2 million levs in the same period of 2018.
The plant's total revenue gained an annual 17.06% to 350 million levs in the first three months of the year.
NPP Kozloduy's power output edged up 0.2% year-on-year to 4,552,324 MWh in the January-March period. Electricity sales also added 0.2% to 4,340,243 MWh.
Kozloduy NPP has two operational units - Units 5 and 6 - of 1,000 MW each. The plant's four other units, of 440 MW each, were closed down to address nuclear safety concerns of the European Union prior to Bulgaria's accession to the bloc in 2007.
