April 23 (SeeNews) - The Bucharest city council said on Tuesday it has approved a draft project for rehabilitation of the city's central heating system which requires investment of over 1.18 billion lei ($279 million/248 million euro).
Almost 106 kilometers of heating main pipes will be rehabilitated, the project published by the city council of the Romanian capital reads.
Through this investment, the city council aims to reduce air pollution and decrease losses of heat in the transmission and distribution networks to 22.4% of the total quantity of heat delivered. Thus, the municipality expects to save over 67 million lei per year by reducing losses.
The draft project also aims to increase compliance with the EU and national legislation on energy and environmental protection by ensuring access to hot-water supply public service at affordable prices, especially for low-income population.
The investment will be financed from allocations from the municipal budget and/or from other sources legally constituted for this purpose, such as non-reimbursable funds.
The project's estimated implementation time period is 2019-2023.
The draft project requires approval of a feasibility study as well as technical and economic parameters.
