September 11 (SeeNews) - The indices of the Bucharest Stock Exchange, BVB, gained ground on Friday in volatile trading, while government bonds and futures accounted for more than half of the day’s turnover, brokers said.
The blue-chip BET index of the BVB added 0.81% to 4,376.70 points, while the BET-FI, which tracks the country's five regional investment funds, the SIFs, rose 1.05% to 23,948.84 points.
The composite BET-C index advanced 0.73% to 2,558.49 and the ROTX index of Romania's 15 most liquid stocks, a joint index of the BVB and the Vienna Stock Exchange, ticked 0.16% higher to 9,209.34.
BVB's turnover doubled to 62.7 million lei ($21.3 million/14.6 million euro) from 31.9 million lei on Thursday, thanks to 36 million lei worth of bonds and 4.7 million lei worth of futures. The number of traded shares increased to 83.6 million from 54.9 million on Thursday.
SIF 5 Oltenia rose 0.83% to 1.21 lei in the day's largest turnover of 4.4 million lei. Blue-chip oil and gas group Petrom dropped 1.52% to 0.26 lei on deals worth 3.7 million lei, Friday’s second largest turnover. SIF 3 Transilvania ended unchanged at 0.72 lei in a 2.2 million lei turnover, the session’s third largest.
SIF 2 Moldova gained 0.93% to 1.09 lei in 2.19 million lei turnover. SIF 4 Muntenia picked up 2.08% to 0.735 lei in turnover of 1.7 million lei, and SIF 1 Banat Crisana added 1.79% to 1.14 lei in deals worth 925,000 lei.
Blue-chip lender BRD appreciated by 0.79% to 12.8 lei in a turnover of 1.0 million lei, while Banca Transilvania slid 1.26% to 1.57 lei in 770,000 lei turnover.
Blue-chip oil refinery Rompetrol Rafinare surged 8.26% to 0.059 lei in deals worth 2.2 million lei, while blue-chip gas transmission company Transgaz advanced by 1.27% to 159.9 lei in a 386,000 lei turnover.
The BET-XT index, which tracks the 25 most liquid companies on the bourse, including the SIFs, was up 0.68% to 435.25 points. The BET-NG, which includes companies from the energy sector and utilities, climbed 2.42% to 569.41 points.
Rasdaq-C, the composite index of the over-the-counter market RASDAQ, edged up 0.2% to 2,112.16. Turnover on the RASDAQ decreased to 529,000 lei from 639,000 lei on Thursday.
