March 19 (SeeNews) - The University of Applied Sciences Bremen said on Monday it is collaborating with the Polytechnic University Tirana in a bid to help Albania enhance electricity generation from biogas.
A delegation from the German university is on a four-day visit to Tirana whose purpose is to set up a laboratory for the production of biogas from sewage sludge and other organic waste in the Albanian capital.
Albania, which is seeking EU candidate status, needs to expand its biogas technology in order to meet requirements under the European Water Framework Directive. The country currently processes less than 10% of its wastewater and imports one-third of the needed electricity but energy demand grows by about 6% a year.
