SARAJEVO (Bosnia and Herzegovina), September 28 (SeeNews) – Bosnia's Tuzla International Airport has launched works on a 6.1 million marka ($3.7 million/3.1 million euro) expansion project, which will see the airport double its passenger terminal to accommodate 800 passengers per hour, the government of the Tuzla Canton said.
Currently, Tuzla Airport can only accommodate one Airbus 320 aircraft per hour, but once the works are completed, it will have the capacity to handle two such planes at the same time, the Tuzla Canton said on Wednesday, following a groundbreaking ceremony.
The investment will be funded by the government of the Federation, the Tuzla Canton, and the airport itself.
At the end of last year, Tuzla Airport said it plans to increase passenger numbers to some 450,000 in 2017 with the aid of Hungarian low-cost carrier Wizz Air.
Wizz Air runs a base with two aircraft in Tuzla, from where it serves 16 routes.
Tuzla is based in the Federation, one of the two autonomous entities that make up Bosnia and Herzegovina. The other is the Serb Republic.
