PODGORICA (Montenegro), December 6 (SeeNews) – Bosnia's 300 MW Stanari thermal power plant (TPP) was granted a permanent operating licence by the environment ministry of the Serb Republic, one of the country's two autonomous entities, environment minister Srebrenka Golic said.
The permanent licence was issued after a six-month trial period during which TPP Stanari operated without glitches, Golic said at a news conference aired by local broadcasters on Monday.
To date, Stanari has generated 1.4 billion kilowatt hours of (kWh) of electricity, with plans to exceed 2 billion kilowatt hours next year, Savo Mirkovic, the power plant's technical manager, said.
EFT Group was awarded a concession contract to develop the Stanari TPP in 2008. The total value of the undertaking is estimated at over 560 million euro ($603.1 million).
The construction works on the power station, located near the Stanari coal mine in the area of the town of Doboj, began in 2012. The main building contractor is China's Dongfang.
The power station will have an annual output of 2,000 GWh while the annual coal consumption is planned at 2.3 million tonnes.
The Stanari coal basin is situated some 70 km east of Banja Luka, in central Bosnia and Herzegovina. EFT has been operating the mine since May 2005.
UK-based EFT Group is an energy trading and investment group, focused on Western, Central and Southeastern Europe.
