SARAJEVO (Bosnia and Herzegovina), March 21 (SeeNews) – Bosnia's Sarajevo Canton and local water utility KJKP Vodovod i kanalizacije will start tendering in the second quarter of 2017 for a 30 million euro ($32.4 million) project to reduce water losses and eliminate cuts in water supply, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) said.
The Sarajevo canton plans to use the proceeds of a loan from the EBRD to finance the project, the lender said in a statement on Monday.
The project will include the reconstruction of pumping stations including equipment for power supply, chlorination and control; reconstruction of bulk water pipelines; replacement of obsolete water mains in selected parts of the distribution network and the installation of meters.
The Sarajevo Canton is the ninth of 10 cantons of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, one of the two entities that make up the country. The other is the Serb Republic.
