September 1 (SeeNews) - The transport ministry of Bosnia’s Sarajevo Canton said on Wednesday it has signed a 34.7 million euro ($41.1 million) agreement with Swiss rolling stock manufacturer Stadler Rail for the purchase of 15 trams.
The new trams can carry 180 passengers and can drive at speeds of up to 70 km/h, Sarajevo Canton's transport ministry said in a statement.
The first vehicles are expected to be delivered to the city of Sarajevo within 24 months, with the delivery of all 15 trams to be completed within up to 32 months.
The purchase of the new trams is financed through loans from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank.
The Sarajevo Canton is one of ten cantons forming Bosnia’s Federation entity. The Federation and the Serb Republic together form Bosnia and Herzegovina.
