July 5 (SeeNews) - The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has signed a mandate letter with Bosnia's Sarajevo Canton for the financing of energy efficiency projects worth 20 million marka ($11.5 million/10.2 million euro), Bosnian media reported on Friday.
The document was signed on the sidelines of the EBRD Green Cities: Building a better and more sustainable future for cities event held in London on Thursday, news portal biznis.ba reported.
The financing will support Sarajevo Canton's project for introducing energy efficiency in public buildings, which will be launched in 2020.
The investment will go to 40 public facilities in the canton, mainly schools, kindergartens, faculty buildings and health institutions to improve working conditions and lower energy consumption by 50%, biznis.ba quoted the prime minister of Sarajevo Canton, Edin Forto, as saying.
Sarajevo Canton joined the Green Cities programme of the EBRD with the launch of an action plan in February. Sarajevo was the third Bosnian city to enter the Green Cities list after Banja Luka and Zenica.
Sarajevo Canton is one of the 10 cantons of the Federation - one of Bosnia's two constituent entities. The other entity is the Serb Republic.
